Bacon dates back to 1500 BCE
Bacon is one of the world’s oldest processed meats. The Romans made petaso, as they called it, by boiling salted pig shoulder with figs, and then seasoning the mixture with pepper sauce. Wine was, of course, a frequent accompaniment. John Harris, an Englishman, is credited as the forefather of large-scale industrial bacon manufacturing. In the 1770s he opened his company in Wiltshire, still considered the bacon capital of the world. Today, bacon is immensely popular with novelty bacon dishes like maple bacon doughnuts other bacon-related items becoming celebrated on the internet.
